After attending the 2023 Offie Awards with 7 nominations, we are proud to announce Brixton House as the winner of two Offie Awards within our first year of opening!
Hosted by Off West End the event celebrated the work and achievements of theatres, performers, writers, directors, technicians and everyone else in between who worked tirelessly to make all things possible across non-West-End stages and venues both during and post-pandemic.To that note, this was the first in-person Offie Awards since their 2020 event.
Brixton House were shortlisted for 7 categories, becoming finalists across 3 of those categories:
- Best Newcomer (Nkhanise Phiri for her performance as ‘Alice’ in Alice In Wonderland)
- Best Performance Ensemble (The cast of Alice In Wonderland)
- Most Promising New Playwright (Waleed Ahktar for Kabul Goes Pop at Brixton House, and The P Word at Bush Theatre)
We are thrilled to congratulate both Nkhanise Phiri and Waleed Akhtar as the winning finalists in both of their categories!
The award ceremony was held on Sunday 12th February 2023 at the iconic Alexandra Palace Theatre in North London. Described by Alexandra Palace as ‘London’s Oldest New Theatre’ this venue reopened in 2018, following a 2-year renovation process and a staggering 80 years of being hidden from the public.
Building upon Ovalhouse Theatre’s legacy and reputation for programming radical work, Brixton House is proud to be producing and commissioning work which continues to be recognised for its hard-hitting quality and innovative delivery, as well as supporting new artists as they continue to break ground throughout their careers.
