A Fond Farewell to Brixton House Good Neighbours’ Group Lead, Lesley

In March 2025, Brixton House Good Neighbours (formerly Stockwell Good Neighbours) came together with the local community to celebrate and honour the incredible contributions of outgoing Elders’ Group Facilitator, Lesley, whose impact has been truly immeasurable. Lesley has played a vital role in the development of Brixton House Good Neighbours for over 25 years, supporting the arts, social wellbeing, and our local community.

The day was filled with laughter and an outpouring of gratitude for Lesley’s unwavering commitment to Brixton and beyond. With special guests including the Mayor of Lambeth, Cllr John-Paul Ennis, and founder and member of Brixton House Good Neighbours Dolly, it was a truly special occasion.

Through her passion and care, Lesley has helped shape the cultural fabric of Brixton House Good Neighbours and fostered a warm, welcoming community for Elders who continue to participate in activities to help reduce isolation and loneliness, and promote good health and wellbeing while developing creative skills.

It’s a privilege and a joy to welcome Brixton House Good Neighbours under our wing. We collaborate with professional artists to offer high-quality creative activities that strengthen the group’s sense of community and help reduce feelings of isolation. The Elders help shape the programme, selecting which creative skills they’d like to explore each term. It’s always a pleasure to host the group on Mondays—they bring such wonderful energy into the building!

The event was a testament to the spirit of Brixton House—a space where people, stories, and community come together. With a photo exhibition of beloved members past and present, the room was filled with friends, colleagues, local community sharing memories and moments. One thing was clear: Lesley’s legacy will continue to resonate for years to come.

Brixton House Good Neighbours is a fantastic group, and we value its importance to our local elderly community, in particular to those of the Windrush generation and the Afro-Caribbean community. The group empowers members to connect with each other, support their wellbeing and learn new skills through arts and movement activities.

We thank Lesley for her years of dedication and wish her all the very best in her next chapter. We are excited about the future of Brixton House Good Neighbours and look forward to welcoming members back for the upcoming term.

We are looking for grants and donations to grow the reach of Brixton House Good Neighbours. For more information on how to support Brixton House Good Neighbours, please contact Head of Development, Cynthia Roomes via [email protected].
