It has been almost 80 years since the Empire Windrush arrived from the Caribbean to the Tilbury Docks in Essex.

Honouring the legacy of Windrush and the spirit of resistance that shaped Peckham and Brixton, this event bridges generations through culture, play and community.

Join us for open games of dominoes hosted by the Queeribbean Domino Project, a writing workshop facilitated by Cold Islanders and a book swap run by Dopereaders.

The day will be alive with steel pan performances hosted by The Metronomes and a market hosted by Black-owned businesses in our Foyer. See the full schedule below:

  • Windrush Market hosted by local Black-owned businesses: 11am-4.30pm
  • Book swap run by Dopereaders—bring a book and get a fresh one back: 11am-4.30pm
  • Voices of Resilience writing workshop facilitated by Cold Islanders: 11am
    • This writing workshop invites the community to reflect on their past while using their imagination to shape a hopeful future. Together, we can celebrate history, empower community through words and inspire one another to create a legacy of strength and positivity
  • Dominoes games led by the Queeribbean Domino Project: 12pm-3pm
  • Steel pan performances by The Metronomes: 1.30pm & 4.10pm
  • Exploring Abolition writing workshop facilitated by Cold Islanders with Global Majority Cop Watch: 2pm
    • Join this community discussion identifying the failings of current systems, before exploring how to create a better world, followed by creative space for art, collaging, drawing, painting and more
