Join us for an inspiring event, “Empowering Voices: Migrant Women Crafting Theatre and Making It Happen,” featuring Pepa Duarte (Eating Myself UK TOUR) in conversation with two exceptional female migrant creatives: Hannah Kumari and Tina Hofman. Discover their journeys in conceiving and producing theatre, finding support, and connecting with a diverse network of fellow artists outside London. Gain valuable insights and foster connections with underrepresented voices in the creative world.

The event will culminate with a networking session led by Foreign Affairs, where attendees will have the opportunity to connect with the speakers and fellow participants. Panellists

Pepa Duarte: Pepa Duarte is a Peruvian actor, writer and theatre maker based in London. Her unique process creates from the performative space and often explores themes of identity, migration, feminism and belonging. Her work has been previously commissioned and supported by Battersea Arts Centre, CASA Festival, Counterpoint Arts, UKNA, Arts Council England, Peruvian Embassy, Theatre Deli, amongst many others. Her critically acclaimed debut play EATING MYSELF (OFF Com Award) is currently touring the UK. 

Hannah Kumari: Hannah Kumari is a writer/director and former actor.  She has a BA Hons. in Acting from Bretton Hall and spent over 10 years working as an actor across TV, film and Theatre in both the UK and Spain, Her acclaimed solo-show ENG- ER-LAND, which she wrote and performed, toured to over 25 venues between February 2021 and August 2023, ending with a run at the Arcola theatre in Hackney and being nominated for Best Stage Production at the 2022 Asian Media Awards. Hannah is currently a mentor on the Squint Playwriting Award Scheme, for writers from east London from low socio-economic backgrounds. 

Tina Hofman: Tina Hofman is a performance maker, producer, and researcher, from ex-Yugoslavia, present-day Croatia. She relocated to London, where she completed her theatre training and embarked on a flourishing freelance career. Under the mentorship of Adrian Howells in 2012 Tina delved into the creation of performances that often explore the delicate precipices of human existence. Her artistic work is deeply rooted in themes of memory, grief, and silent rage. She co-founded Notnow Collective with a fellow Croatian, Kristina Gavran. In addition to her artistic pursuits, Tina co-founded Migrants in Theatre, is Resident Creative at Leicester Curve and is actively engaged in doctoral research at the University of Birmingham.

Foreign Affairs: Foreign Affairs is a micro theatre company with an adventurous spirit, run by the creative duo Camila França and Trine Garrett. Their work focuses on theatre in translation, intercultural exchange and collaboration, and performance in unconventional spaces. Or, in other words – they bring theatre from around the world to local communities. Recent productions include The Wetsuitman(2023 & 2022) by Freek Mariën, translated by David McKay, Where I Call Home (2021) by Marc-Antoine Cyr, translated by Charis Ainslie, The Warmhouse (2019 )by Anna Bro, translated by Paul Russell Garrett and The Unburied, The Saint of Darkness (2017) by András Visky, translated by Jozefina Komporaly.
