Brixton House is more than a theatre. It’s a creative home in and for South London. We are bold, civic, and rooted in community.
A Landmark Year
2025 was our most ambitious year yet. We staged Black Power Desk, our first musical, inspired by the Mangrove Nine reaching nearly 5,000 people across 31 performances, with 31 standing ovations. The show won the 2026 Stage Award for Best Campaign and regionally toured to Warwick Arts Centre, the Lowry and Birmingham Hippodrome.
We commemorated 40 years since the 1985 Brixton Uprising with our UPRISING Festival hosting 30 plus events, engaging 2,000 participants from 12 South London boroughs, with 75% of audiences being first-time visitors.
Our Highlights
- Over 18,000 audience members were welcomed to our cultural venue, with 17 productions staged centring Black, Latinx, Queer and Global Majority voices
- Record-breaking first timers discovered our work with 70% of Black Power Desk bookers being first-time visitors, and welcoming 579 Lambeth locals
- Over 800 participants welcomed to free family activities during school holidays
- 33 creative sessions delivered for Elders aged 65+ through our Good Neighbours programme
- 12 local young people aged 18–26 launched into our new Young Associates programme
- Worked with 173 charity and public sector venue hires
- Generated over £15,000 from our enterprises contributing to the local Brixton economy through our Bar & Café
What We Stand For
In one of London’s most culturally rich yet unequal boroughs, we use storytelling and culture as tools for social change. We work with and for communities that mainstream funded culture too often overlooks – Black British and Caribbean, Latinx, and LGBTQ+ artists, audiences and participants.
We don’t just present work. We respond to local need, build confidence, create pathways, and hold spaces where people feel seen and heard.
“Brixton House has become one of those rare places that doesn’t just host culture; it creates it.”

What’s Next
Over the next 12 months, we’ll deepen our role as a civic and cultural hub, expanding our youth offer across Young Associates and Rampage Youth Project, growing Brixton House Good Neighbours and our Community Choir, and continuing to centre Black, Latinx, Queer and Global Majority voices on stage.
We’re building something lasting. This was just the warm-up.
