Description
To celebrate its 25th anniversary, La Linea Festival is partnering with CASA to bring an exciting dance workshop and social to Brixton House, led by the incredible Queer Salsa.
CASA celebrates Latin American, Caribbean, and diasporic stories through diverse arts programmes that inspire reflection and dialogue. Founded in 2007 as a theatre festival, it has grown into a multidisciplinary platform, now with a home at Brixton House. In partnership with La Linea Festival—the UK’s leading Latin music festival—we are excited to present an evening of dance and inclusivity, celebrating the power of movement, music, and community.
Schedule
Beginners Crossbody Salsa Workshop (5pm – 6pm) | Queer Salsa
Open to all levels, including complete beginners, you’ll choose whether to lead or follow and switch partners throughout the session. The focus will be on how to communicate and connect with each other through dance, while also covering the fundamentals like the basic step and more fun moves like spins. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have met a bunch of new cuties and feel ready to salsa the night away!
Salsaton Workshop (6pm – 7pm) | Tropican Dance
Open to all levels, including complete beginners, Tropican Dance will teach us a Salsaton choreo. Blending Reggaeton and Salsa you’ll learn how to better move your body to Afro-Cuban rhythms and mix up dance styles. Tropican Dance has a deep connection to the Afro-Latin roots of the dances we love and he will show you how to connect with the freedom of these rhythms.
Queer Salsa Playlist & Facilitated Dance Social (7pm – 8pm) | Queer Salsa Host
To help you ease out of a classroom environment to the dance floor, the Queer Salsa team will be facilitating a Salsa dance social by giving you direction on the etiquette of social Salsa dancing and the encouragement to approach new people for a dance. More experienced dancers from the community will be taking on the role of Guardian Dancers, they will be approaching you for a dance and will be there for extra support on moves.
DJ Set (8pm – 9pm) | Popola
Popola are a collective that create powerful spaces to celebrate and centre Queer Afro-Latin and Afro-Caribbean culture and communities. One of their incredible DJ’s will be playing a special set for the last hour, blending Salsa, Salsaton, Bachata, Merengue and Perreo.
All workshops are free, but booking is required to secure your place.
