Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years. She died peacefully on Thursday afternoon at her Scottish estate, where she had spent much of the summer.
Brixton House (formerly Ovalhouse) had the honour of Queen Elizabeth II as our Royal Patron. Her Majesty has a long history of support, first as Christ Church Oxford United Clubs then as it transformed into an arts organisation as Ovalhouse and through our latest move to Brixton House.
We are deeply saddened by the news. She was our patron for over 60 years and during times of remarkable social change and we have benefitted most recently with the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
A message from our Artistic Director and Joint CEO Gbolahan Obisesan, Executive Director and Joint CEO Gary Johnson & Executive Board.
The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change. Her son King Charles III said the death of his beloved mother was a “moment of great sadness” for him and his family and that her loss would be “deeply felt” around the world.
