We will continue the evening in the foyer with a Round Table Books pop-up where Kelechi Okafor’s Edge of HereTemi Oh’s More Perfect and Courttia Newland’s A River Called Time will be available to purchase alongside a curated selection of Black speculative fiction and sci-fi novels. You will also be able to get your books signed by all three authors.

About the authors:

Kelechi Okafor is a Nigerian-born, London-based lover of words—whether that’s crafting works of fiction, articles, stage plays or screenplays; from directing others on stage to expressing her thoughts on society one podcast episode at a time alongside esteemed interview guests on her award-winning podcast Say Your Mind.  Known online as @Kelechnekoff, Kelechi also affectionately known as “just a Baby Girl” by her followers, listeners and community. Edge of Here is her debut story collection.

Courttia Newland is the author of nine books including his debut, The Scholar. A story collection, Cosmogramma, was published in 2021. His short stories have appeared in many anthologies and broadcast on BBC Radio 4. As a screenwriter he has co-written two episodes of the Steve McQueen BBC series Small Axe, and an episode of The Woman in the Wall for BBC/Showtime. His latest novel, A River Called Time, was shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award Science Fiction Book of the Year 2022.

Temi Oh graduated from King’s College London with a BSci in Neuroscience. While at KCL, Temi founded and ran a book-club called ‘Neuroscience-fiction’, where she lead discussions about science-fiction books which focus on the brain, and began working on her first novel, Do You Dream of Terra-Two? In 2016, Temi received an MA in creative writing from the University of Edinburgh. Her debut novel Do You Dream of Terra-Two? (2019) was reviewed by the Guardian, Stylist and SFX magazine, and was shortlisted for the Diverse Book Awards. More Perfect is her second novel.

About our Host:

Akua Gymanfi founded The British Blacklist in 2012, a platform that celebrates the talents of British Black creatives across Screen, Stage, Literature and Sound. She also produces podcasts Your Aunties Could Never and TBB Talks. Akua is the co-creator/co-exec producer and host of industry round table series The Circle.

In 2019 Akua joined forces with Soul Film, and We Are Parable to launch the S.O.U.L. Film Festival. Akua has interviewed the likes of Viola Davis, Ryan Coogler, Letitia Wright, Spike Lee, Daniel Kaluuya, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Barbara Broccoli and more.
