HangParty

HangParty – Spoken Word Workshop

5 August-5 August

HangParty arrives in Brixton, inspired by Hang Nights salon-style evening of creative expression in Harlem. This spoken word and poetry workshop is open to all levels.

Description

HangParty arrives in Brixton, inspired by Hang Nights salon-style evening of creative expression in Harlem. Designed to catalyse a diverse and inclusive creative community, HangParty is an annual showcase where artists of every genre at every stage of development are seen and heard.

Curated by Brixton House’s Front of House team, HangParty presents an eclectic mix of visual arts, an open mic for poetry, and vocal performers but may also include dance performers, musicians, or a mini-fashion presentation – you’ll have to come by to see!

This workshop is open for all levels – you do not need any experience to attend, just a desire to be heard! There will be an opportunity to share our work (but no pressure to do so either). By the end of the session, participants will leave with the confidence and knowledge of how to construct a spoken word/page poem and be inspired to express themselves through their writing.

Memo Brown is a spoken word performer and general lover of words from South London. She began by scribbling thoughts and fantastical ideas in her notebook, which she had kept hidden for years. Now, she takes those scribbles across London to perform at various events for audiences. Memo most loves creating storytelling pieces that use clever wordplay and relatable themes. Her work with ‘Mixed Race Faces’ was confronting and original as she shared her personal experience through her art. With a background of working in education and now in the theatre industry, and is a consistent student of life is something she feels very passionate about.
